Ihsahn - Das Seelenbrechen (2013 NN Promo)
"Last year’s Eremita certainly showed signs of change in former Emperor frontman, now solo tycoon; Ihsahn and this new album is no different. As a matter of fact, this album even further layers the ability of the artist and shows him in a much different light than some of us would’ve ever suspected. At any rate, I don’t think there’s any way that I can best describe this record, then to take you through it. “Hilber” opens the disc with prog theatrics that make me think that Ihsahn might secretly be a hardcore fan of the James Bond films, while “Regen” brings in epic orchestrations and unforeseen maturity. Of course, when “NaCl” comes into the picture it makes me think of Ihsahn fronting King Crimson or Camel. But what’s more, is that his clean approach has gotten so good in the past few years that he could actually do a prog metal act justice..."

Gigan - Multi-Dimensional Fractal Sorcery And Super Science (2013 NN Promo)
"Gigan have always been full of technical wonders and their latest album, Multi-Dimensional Fractal Sorcery And Super Science is no different. While I was listening to the album, I was also in the midst of editing the sci-fi portion of a manuscript and Gigan fit the atmosphere quite well. I could hear all the bleeps and bloops coming from the ship’s control deck, feel the ice-cold winds of space blowing against my face and hear the whirling of inter-stellar travel as they led me throughout the stars. Gigan’s work always has been something that isn’t just a listen, but an audial adventure; and this newest release is no different. Just the opener (“Beneath The Sea Of Tranquility”) alone opens the album with enough force to warrant a self-contained journey through realms unknown and proves that it can do so with or without the harsh vocal element. Though make no mistake; because Gigan definitely still deliver in the brutality department, albeit with the same sense of unconventionality that we’ve always expected from them..."

Psyclon Nine - Order Of The Shadow: Act I (2013 NN Promo)
"Being a fan of Metropolis Records acts like Combichrist, Front Line Assembly, The Birthday Massacre, Hanzel Und Gretyl and several others who have shown their salt in the industrial and electronic scene, (and relax guys, I’m not forgetting about Grendel, Wumpscut and VNV Nation) I was quite happy to see that Dawn Of Ashes had finally dropped their deathcore act and found their place in a meld of black metal influenced industrial, which is much of what you’ll expect with another of the label’s newest acts, Psyclon Nine. Though they have several self-produced releases on Bandcamp, this is their debut for a major label and from a musical standpoint, it’s strong industrial metal with a sense of foreboding terror and slathered with bits of anarchy..."

Tech N9ne - Therapy EP (2013 NN Promo)
"A sort of supplement to his recently released album, Something Else, Tech N9ne’s newest venture comes as a result of his work with Ross Robinson, who has been responsible for the production of Korn and Slipknot albums. Needless to say, Tech was feeling like making some noise on this album and that’s just what he did. “Public School” sees metal riff injections and the use of middle-eastern atmospheres, which seem to suggest that Tech not only wanted to make some noise, but that he also wanted to experiment with further things removed from the hip-hop genre. The jazz-rock grooves of “Head Now” might appeal more to the hip-hop listeners than some of the heavier tracks. “Hiccup” will fall in the same line, being a relatively strong track with a Hed PE. feel, complete with dropped d-tune and thick rhyme delivery..."

Paradise Lost - Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities) (2013 NN Promo)
"Ah, Paradise Lost. There’s no one out there quite like them and this collection of rarities proves that even their B-sides are well worth hearing. Most of these tracks were only available on special or limited edition versions of their studio albums, or they were import bonuses – perhaps even made available only to subscribers of certain magazines. At any rate, the band decided to gather them all up and release them for this 25th anniversary celebration. While not as extensive as the earlier released Paradise Lost: B-Sides And Rarities (2006) collection on Music For Nations, this collection spans the band’s legacy from the 2007 release In Requiem to the band’s current album, Tragic Idol. Some of these tracks were packaged with the special editions of albums, so I have heard them before – but others must have been either extremely rare or packaged with singles and that’s why I’m not familiar with them..."

Interview With Eddie Kim Of Billboard Death Metal and Deadfall, Now On New Noise!
"Tell us a little bit about yourself. How long have you been making music and what bands or projects have you done before these current ones?
My name is Eddie Kim and I’m a Boston based musician and producer. I grew up near Denver, Colorado and moved out to Massachusetts to attend the Berklee College of Music in 2006. I’ve been playing music since I was a child starting with the piano, but didn’t get serious about music until I picked up the guitar at age 11. Throughout middle school and high school I played a lot of hard rock and jazz music. When I got to Berklee I started playing a lot more technical music such as jazz fusion and progressive metal, as well as starting to grow a love for the recording/producing side of music..."
