Just in case you need clarification, California's Necrosic make the kind of classic death metal that Grandma used to make. Big old snarling Grandma with a meat cleaver in one hand, severed head in the other. Don't you remember when she tried to make you eat mushy brain matter? No? Well, you must not have had a very good childhood then. In any case, these gentlemen really soar when it comes to death metal and they have skill where it truly counts, in the playing. Yes, we get our chunky grooves and rowdy vocals, but we also get some absolutely fucking godlike solo work. Holy shit, I haven't heard shredding like this in death metal for a long time, it reminds me of Covenant, which is actually my favorite Morbid Angel disc to this day. The disc isn't quite all about speed and shred though, as a grueling number by the name of “Squirming In Your Guts” comes over to take a shit in your coffee. But it smells good, kind of like the coffee you used to drink when Grandma... you know what? Nevermind. All kidding aside, I'm extremely pleased with the performance here and am only upset that it couldn't have been longer. As the thick doom encroaches upon us with “My Casket Drains” and the leads flow right into that for extra spunk, we know that we're getting a quality performance. The record kind of sounds like what you'd get if you went to see these guys live and there's not much more of an authenticity than that. A warm production and a mastery of the craft equal out to being one damn good death metal album. Makes sure that you buy a copy of it for yourself and all of your friends too. These guys are definitely worth spreading around.
